#SUAVESATURDAYS WEEK 3 - MATCHING YOUR BELT AND SHOES

Welcome back to #SuaveSaturdays!

STYLE TIP - STOP MISMATCHING YOUR BELT AND SHOES IN YOUR BUSINESS OUTFITS

We have all been there. A well dressed gentleman in a suit walks by. You can tell he takes care of himself and his style...but then you see it. As you pan over the outfit as a whole, you see nice black wingtip oxfords on his feet, and then a vintage brown belt. Yikes. This is a common style mistake we see, where gentlemen assume throwing on any color/finish belt with your outfit works just fine - wrong! When people are looking at your outfit as a whole, having a mismatched shoes and belt to your otherwise nice outfit will really throw off the appeal and flow of the outfit.

THE FIX - MAKE SURE YOUR BELT AND SHOES MATCH IN COLOR AND FINISH

This fix is relatively simple - just make sure you are coordinating your belt and shoes. To conquer this tip, you need to make sure you are matching color AND finish. The color part is relatively easy, just make sure they match. Cognac to cognac, cherry to cherry...you get the hint. As for the finish, pay attention to if you have an item that is glossy, vintage, flat, etc. Make sure the accompanying item has that same look and finish. For example, if your favorite burgundy loafers are glossy and shiny, you shouldn't pair it with a flat/dull burgundy belt.

BONUS TIP - When shopping for clients, this is a trick we use to ensure the coordination is right! Take whatever item you have already (that you need to match) with you to the store, and put them side by side to ensure you get it right! With online shopping it can be a little tougher, but hey, that's what free returns are for, amirite? 😉

BONUS STYLE TRICK - If you really want to take things to the next level, you can match styles between shoes and belts as well. For example, if your shoes have a paisley design or something similar, you can try to find a belt that has that design as well. Be careful though, you may be inundated with compliments! 😉
